A video call lets you see the person you are talking to. It is a wonderful way to keep in touch with children and grandchildren.

โœ… What you need

  • A phone, tablet, or computer with a camera
  • An internet connection (Wi-Fi is fine)
  • The other person ready to answer

Step by step

  1. Open the video call app. On many phones this is FaceTime (Apple) or Google Meet. Open the video call app or website. On a computer this is often Google Meet, Zoom, or Skype.
  2. Find the person you want to call in your contacts list.
  3. Tap their name, then tap the video camera button. Click their name, then click the video camera button.
    ๐Ÿ’ก The camera button usually looks like a little video camera.
  4. Wait a few seconds for them to answer. You will see their face when they do.
  5. When you are finished, tap the red button to hang up. When you are finished, click the red button to hang up.

๐Ÿ’ก Helpful tips

  • Sit somewhere with a light in front of you, not behind you, so they can see your face.
  • It is okay to practice with a friend first. Nobody gets it perfect the first time.

Video calls feel almost like being in the same room. Once you have made one or two, it becomes second nature.
