Which device are you using?

Pick one and the steps below will use the right words for you.

Wi-Fi is how your device connects to the internet without any wires. You usually only need to do this once at home.

βœ… What you need

  • The name of your home Wi-Fi network
  • Your Wi-Fi password (often printed on the internet box/router)

Step by step

  1. Open Settings. It is the grey gear icon. Open Settings, then choose Network & Internet (Windows) or Wi-Fi (Mac).
  2. Tap Wi-Fi near the top. Click Wi-Fi. Make sure the Wi-Fi switch is turned On.
  3. Look at the list of network names that appears.
  4. Tap the name of your home network. Click the name of your home network, then click Connect.
πŸ’‘ Your network name is usually on a sticker on your internet box.
  5. Type the Wi-Fi password carefully. It is case-sensitive, so capital letters matter.
  6. A check mark or the word Connected means you are online. Well done!

πŸ’‘ Helpful tips

  • You only need to do this once per place. Your device remembers the network next time.
  • At a doctor's office or cafe, choose their guest network the same way.

Once you see β€œConnected,” you are ready to use the internet. If you ever move house or get a new internet box, just follow these same steps again.
